Frequently Asked Questions

Often, the business itself is working - it’s the way it presents itself that hasn’t kept pace.
Your offer may have evolved, your team grown, your customers changed or the calibre of your work increased, while your brand, website and messaging still reflect an earlier version of the business.
We recently worked with an established construction business creating extraordinary homes whose digital presence had been a holding page for years. The quality and sophistication of the work simply wasn’t reflected in what prospective clients saw online.
That disconnect is usually the tell. If the business you’ve built feels significantly more established, sophisticated or ambitious than the business someone sees when they find you online, your brand may have some catching up to do.
-
Maybe neither. Maybe both. That’s why we start with strategy rather than jumping straight into a new logo or website.
For one established business, the brand itself was strong. Once we’d clarified the strategy and positioning, the transformation they needed was relatively simple: a new Shopify theme, clearer navigation and refreshed copy to better bring the brand promise to life.
For another, the business had evolved so significantly that almost everything needed to catch up. That meant a new name, brand identity, website and platform, through to email signatures, NetSuite templates and the everyday touchpoints their customers and team interacted with.
Both were transformations. They just needed very different things.
Our job is to work out what will actually make a difference to your business - what stays, what changes and where your investment is best spent - then help make it happen.
The goal isn’t to sell you a rebrand or a new website. It’s to make sure the way your business presents itself matches the business you’ve built and where you’re heading next.
-
Start with the business, not the brand.
When you’ve been busy growing a business, it’s easy for the things around it to evolve piecemeal. The website gets patched. Someone updates a presentation. A new team member creates a template. The logo might still be the one you started with ten years ago. Before long, nothing quite joins up - and finding the time to work out what needs fixing can feel like a job in itself.
You don’t need to come to us knowing whether you need a new brand, a new website or something else entirely. Working that out is part of our job.
We start by zooming out: understanding the business you have today, where you want to take it, who you need to reach and what might be getting in the way.
From there, we can identify what’s still serving you, what’s no longer fit for purpose and what will make the biggest difference — then put the right plan, people and priorities around it.
You don’t need to arrive with the solution. You just need to know that what you have no longer feels like the business you’ve built.

Every transformation is different, but for us it’s about taking the strategy off the page and making sure customers can actually experience it.
For one ecommerce business, our strategy work identified EASE as the brand promise. But their existing website experience was anything but easy - the navigation was clunky, it was difficult to work out which product you needed, and the path to purchase was more complicated than it needed to be.
They didn’t need a new brand or a completely new platform. We used that promise of EASE to guide the decisions that followed: simplifying the navigation and customer journey, refreshing the Shopify theme and rewriting the copy to make it easier for customers to work out what they needed and place an order.
The result wasn’t just a website that better reflected the brand. It made the customer experience easier - and helped increase sales.
That’s what transformation means to us: using strategy to work out what needs to change, then making those changes in the places that actually matter to the business and its customers.
-
Because before we decide what your business needs to do, we need to be clear on who you are and where you’re going.
We think strategy should be simple. It’s not a huge document that sits in a drawer - it’s a framework for making decisions. It gives us a chance to zoom out from the day-to-day, understand the bigger picture and get clear on what you’re trying to achieve before jumping into tactics.
That clarity makes everything that follows easier.
Do we keep the name or change it? Does the brand need an evolution or a complete rethink? Who are we actually trying to reach? What should the website say? What does it need to help people do? Which opportunities matter - and which are just noise?
Importantly, it also means we can make a lot of those decisions for you.
Many of the businesses we work with have grown to the point where time is one of their biggest constraints. The founder doesn’t have the capacity to be across every piece of copy, every page of the website or every tiny creative decision.
With a clear strategy in place, we have a framework to make those decisions on your behalf, involve you where it matters and keep the transformation moving without adding another enormous project to your plate.
The designer has a clear brief. The copy has a purpose. The website has a job to do. And your time and budget go towards the things that will actually move the business forward.
Strategy gives us the framework. Then we make it real.
-
Both. How far we go depends on what your business actually needs.
For one agency we worked with, the team already had the skills and capacity to execute. What they needed from us was clarity and direction. We developed the strategy, translated it into a practical framework, created detailed briefs and built a Trello board of prioritised actions so their team could confidently make the copy, content and digital changes themselves.
At the other end of the spectrum, we’ve worked with an established business where we stayed right through the transformation - from strategy and positioning to a new name, brand identity and website, through to product photography, content, email signatures, internal templates and all the details needed to roll the new brand out consistently.
We don’t believe in creating work for the sake of it, or leaving you with work you don’t have the capacity to do.
If you have a capable internal team, we can give them the clarity, framework and briefs to run with it. If you need us to take the transformation off your plate, we can assemble the right team, manage the process and help get it done.
We know we’ve done our job well when you no longer need us holding your hand. That point looks different for every business. For some, it’s once the strategy and roadmap are clear. For others, it’s once the new brand and website are live, the systems are in place and the team has the confidence and capability to take it from there.
Our job is to get you to that point - wherever it sits in the journey.
-
Yes. If that’s what your business needs, we can manage the transformation from strategy through to launch.
One of the biggest challenges with a brand or website project is that there are often a lot of moving parts - strategy, design, copy, photography, development, content - and traditionally, the business owner ends up sitting in the middle trying to brief everyone, connect the dots and keep the project moving.
We can take that role off your plate.
Because we’ve led the strategy, we understand the bigger picture and can make sure every person involved is working towards the same thing. We brief and manage the right creative partners, review the work through a strategic lens, make decisions where we can and bring you in where your input really matters.
It means the brand designer isn’t heading in one direction while the website heads in another, and you’re not spending your time relaying information between five different people.
You stay close to the decisions that need you. We stay across the details that don't.
-
No. We can bring in the right creative partners for your project, work with people you already trust, or work with someone who’s been recommended to you.
Importantly, we don’t choose the team until we understand the strategy and what the transformation actually requires. Different businesses need different skills, styles, budgets and levels of support, so we build the team around the job - rather than fitting the job around a set team.
But finding the right people is only part of it.
A great creative outcome starts with a great brief.
Because we’ve done the strategic work upfront, we can give designers, developers, photographers, copywriters and other specialists a clear brief: what we’re trying to achieve, who we’re speaking to, what matters and what success needs to look like.
Then we stay involved. We manage the process, review the work against the strategy, consolidate feedback and have the harder conversations when something isn’t quite right - so you don’t have to.
Our job isn’t just to find good creatives. It’s to create the conditions for them to do great work.
-
We work primarily with established, founder-led businesses that have grown, evolved or reached a point of change - and need their strategy, brand or digital presence to catch up.
We work across industries rather than specialising in one category. What our clients tend to have in common is a strong business behind the scenes, an ambitious next chapter ahead of them, and a sense that the way they currently present themselves no longer quite fits.
We’re usually not helping you start a business. We’re helping you transform the one you’ve already built.
-
Sustainable Growth Co is based in the Northern Rivers of NSW, but we work with businesses across Australia.
Most of our strategy and project work can happen remotely, and when a project calls for us to be in the room - for a workshop, photoshoot or other part of the transformation - we can make that happen too.
-
It depends on what needs to change - and the pace you need to move at.
A focused strategy and roadmap will naturally take less time than a transformation involving a new name, brand identity, website, photography and content. Some businesses need to move quickly around a launch, opportunity or deadline; others need the transformation to happen alongside an already very busy operation.
We’ll work with you to understand both the scope and the pace that makes sense for your business, then build the right team and roadmap around it.
The goal is to keep things moving without making the transformation another full-time job for you.
-
Every business needs something different, so the scope of our work depends on what will actually make a difference.
For some businesses, our role might be focused on strategy, direction and a clear roadmap for an internal team to implement. For others, we might stay through a much broader transformation, managing everything from brand and website through to photography, content and rollout.
Our work starts from $7,500 + GST, with the option to spread this across three months at $2,500 + GST per month.
Where additional creative specialists are needed - such as designers, developers or photographers - we’ll scope those costs clearly as part of the recommended roadmap.
We’ll always recommend the level of support and investment that makes sense for your business, rather than selling you things you don’t need.
-
Start with a conversation.
You don’t need to arrive with a brief, a list of deliverables or even a clear idea of what needs to change. Tell us about the business you’ve built, where you’re heading and what doesn’t feel quite right anymore.
From there, we can work out whether we’re the right fit and what the next step should be.
You don’t need to have the solution. That’s part of what you’re coming to us for.
